About the Business
Central Motors is a rural garage & filling station situated at the western edge of St Anns Chapel Gunnislake on the A390 Tavistock to Callington road. We are about half a mile from Gunnislake railway station on the scenic Tamar Valley line to Plymouth. The present owner, Dave Martin, bought the company in 1967 when it was based at Newbridge Hill Gunnislake. In 1972 the business expanded when Southover Filling Station was bought. Along with the rented property 'Newbridge Garage' the company traded from all three premises for many years.
In 1989 the St Anns Chapel site was redeveloped to include new Workshops, Reception, Stores and Car showrooms. The business then relocated to the St Anns Chapel site and the Newbridge Hill site was sold. Today, the business consists of an Esso branded filling station, forecourt shop, used car sales, vehicle repair workshop and MOT testing station.
